The Lompoc Valley Art Association’s Cypress Gallery will be featuring “The Quest for Hidden Gems of California” by Susanne Schenck. The show will be on exhibit from February 2- February 28, 2023 with reception Saturday February 4 from 1-3PM.
Susanne was born and raised in southern Sweden in a small country town but she is now a long time Lompoc resident. She has always been seen carrying some sort of camera capturing a moment in time as photography was always a big interest of hers. She got more involved in the art scene by joining the local guild and arts association the last few years and have had local exhibit in Lompoc and Arroyo Grande.
“I’ve always enjoyed taking pictures. I feel like a piece of me is missing if I don’t have some sort of camera with me (cellphone is ok too, but my Canon is best). My biggest role as a photographer I feel is to share my experiences. I often hike or canoe and when I go on an adventure, I want you to feel like you are there with me on my trip seeing the wonders I see. Whether this is stark cliffs dropping into a tumultuous ocean, lush green forests and moss surrounding you, a snowcapped mountain peak seen from a steep gravel trail – I hope you can sense the awe and wonder of nature’s beauty, or it could be a city view – lights at night, or busy streets with life in its hectic moments but still in a peaceful positive way. I purposely frame the images to give this sense whenever I can. I find that if I can do this for others - especially for those unable to go on these adventures whether its due to physical or mental handicaps but really for anyone needing a moment of peace and tranquility - to share this experience I’ve encountered with everyone. We all need a moment to just be relaxed and calm – I try to give just that.”
Please come by and check out the show and meet the artist. A reception that is open to the public will be held on Saturday February 4th between 1-3PM. The Cypress Gallery is located at 119 East Cypress Avenue, Lompoc across from the Museum.
