The Chair Auction: A Familiar Form, Reimagined
The Chair Auction will feature creative interpretations of an everyday object, the chair, transformed into works of art. Artists are encouraged to alter existing chairs, though all approaches are welcome, from functional, sit-able designs to sculptural pieces, playful experiments with scale, or miniature chairs made for pedestal display.
How the April Show Will Work
We’re going to try out offering the chairs for sale via a month-long silent auction. Throughout the run of the show, visitors will be invited to place bids on chair pieces displayed in the front gallery. The exhibition will culminate on the final Sunday with a live auction event, where the winning bids will be announced in lieu of a traditional opening reception. In addition to the Chair Auction, the back gallery will continue to accept art submissions as usual, with no requirement to follow the chair theme. Artists may participate in the auction, the back gallery exhibition, or both.
