SHARING THE ART OF PLEIN AIR

Over 50 years ago George started painting with a set of acrylic paints, a photo of a barn from a magazine, a 16x20 canvas in his apartment in the community of Thousand Oaks, California.  It was only after retiring from his 30+ yr career as a Vocational Ag/FFA instrutor was he able to begin painting full time. His first attempt at plein air painting began the summer of 2010 in Ventura with artist David Gallup and in Fallbrook, California with Richard Stergulz where George had lived the past 40 years. He continued over the years to take plein air workshops starting with John Cosby, Charles Muench, Kathleen Dunphy, Bill Davidson, and Libby Tolley as well as attending many of the annual PACE (Plein Air Convention & Expo) events held each year in areas such as Monterey CA, Tucson AZ, San Diego CA, Santa Fe NM, San Francisco CA, Denver CO, and recently in the Smoky Mts NC. Painting the autumn colors at Fall Color week in the Adirondacs a few yrs ago was an unforgettable experience!

George primarly paints plein air landscapes in oils and occasionally with acrylics when painting pets or garden art. He has a desire to paint the landscapes in a realistic form as one sees them in nature. His paintings are of locations done during the PACE events over the yrs as well as local scenes in Fallbrook, CA and now on our central coast.

This will be his first featured artist show at Cypress Gallery and hopes to share with everyone his love of painting the outdoors.

Please come by to meet the artist and check out his plein air landscape art. A reception will be held Sunday, September 8th 1-3pm
